The Birches at Newtown takes a proactive approach to wellness with a unique therapy program

Before her move to The Birches at Newtown, Jean lacked confidence in her abilities to move independently.

As a fall risk with significant balance and safety concerns, she relied on a wheelchair for mobility within her apartment and outside the community.

That was then.

Jean quickly progressed with the help of on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapy services available through FOX Optimal Living.

Clinicians noted her zest and willpower as she began feeling stronger.

She continued to make improvements in her abilities to balance and walk without the need of assistance.

“I am so grateful to be a part of The Birches community and being able to participate in FOX Optimal Living. This program has made me stronger, more independent, and confident in myself; I feel wonderful! I’m so happy to be able to walk by myself, and to do so without needing extra help,” Jean said.

Every resident at The Birches can take advantage of FOX Optimal Living, an exclusive wellness program provided by FOX Rehab.

Even residents living in memory care take part because muscles don’t get dementia!

The FOX Optimal Living program offers on-site comprehensive wellness screenings and classes to help maintain health and independence. Clinical experts create and carry out individualized wellness plans focusing on strength, flexibility, and balance.

Participants benefit from more than 150 minutes of therapeutic physical activity each week and have the option of a one-on-one class or a smaller group class based on similar levels of fitness.
